The clients’ kitchen was yet the original from the 1960’s raised-ranch home. The linoleum floor was peeling apart in areas, the cabinets had served their time and the function
of the area needed change. There was underutilized space where the stairway entered from the lower level (the main point of arrival on this lot, sloped steeply from back to front) to a dreary laundry room which was larger than necessary to function well.
The clients desired a new patio door for access to a future 3-season room from the dining area, as well as a new kitchen window and laundry room door. French doors were desired to provide character and privacy to the living room. Well-designed lighting was imperative as the former central lighting left many shadows, and natural light was sometimes limited because the space faces north with a steep hill out the back door.
